IDIOMS AND SAYINGS




  • Bring home the bacon = To earn a living for the family
    • example: Ahmad felt that it was his responsibility to bring home the bacon as his father had died a month before. 
  • To sell like hot cakes = To sell quickly or rapidly
    • example: Datuk Siti Nurhaliza's latest albums were sold like hot cakes
  • Cry over spilt milk = To cry or complain about something that has already happened. 
    • example: It's no good crying over spilt milk, what's done is done. 
  • To be fired = To be dismissed from your job. 
    • example: Mike was always coming late to work, so eventually he was fired.  
  • To put all your eggs in one basket = To risk everything on one person or thing
    • example: You shouldn't invest all your money in just one business, it would be like putting all your eggs in one basket.
